Opposition over the non-inclusion of Guyanese workers at the Marriot Hotel site continues to strengthen – 14th Feb 2013

shot0015The opposition parties and labour movement today commenced the first in a series of protest actions against the non-involvement of Guyanese in the Marriott Hotel construction.

While the Government. through the Minister of Labour is defending its position, the GTUC President, Norris Witter said, the move is a vicious assault and an unforgivable abomination on Guyanese people.

APNU Executive and Member of Parliament Rupert Roopnarine believes, that it’s a clear violation of the constitution. The Marriott Hotel project was discussed at the level of Parliament already and with the new development, Roopnarine said no doubt, the matter will be raised again.

Witter said he is surprised, but somewhat disappointed, at the comments made by the Labour Minister in defense of the Government’s decision.

The opposition and the labour movement are making it clear that they have no problem with the Chinese, but the Government for neglecting its own.
