Four homeless following a fire in the Alberttown community – 14th Feb 2013

shot0014Back at the burnt out building today, family members were trying to pick up the pieces after a fire of unknown origin gutted the 72 1st Street Alberttown home.

Four persons are now homeless and an estimated 18 million dollars went up in flames.

According to reports, the fire reportedly started from the bottom flat of the building, which was occupied at the time by a senior citizen. Public-spirited citizens rescued the woman from the blaze.

Today, Eric Barker owner of the building recounted what was told to him about the fire.

Barker said at the time of the fire his wife and other relatives were in the two storied building.

He said that all is not lost for the family since the building was insured. The fire which once threatened the nearby homes, was  contained to the one building following some good work by the Guyana Fire Service.
