Corentyne man killed by ambulance while on the pedestrian crossing – 11th Feb 2013
The Police are continuing to probe last night’s fatal accident in Berbice, where a pedal cyclist was killed on the spot by an ambulance.
The incident occurred just around 7:30 at Archway Rose Hall, Corentyne Public road.
According to reports, the man was on the pedestrian crossing at the time when he was hit by the ambulance. Persons on the scene said that it appears that the victim did not hear the siren of the ambulance.
The man landed several yards away from the place of impact. He appeared to have sustained injuries to his head and other parts of his body. A source told this newscast that the ambulance was transporting a patient, who was in a critical condition, to the Skeldon hospital.
The driver of the vehicle stopped for a few minutes, before he proceeded along his journey and later turned himself in to the police.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has been pleading to motorists and Pedestrians to adhere to sirens when using the roadways.
