Georgetown community ups effort to reclaim a playground sold to a businessman – 6th Feb 2013

shot0002Residents of Lamaha Gardens are looking at possible legal action over the sale of a plot of land used by the community as a play field.

The move has angered residents who are demanding answers from the Government, in fact, some residents see the sale as illegal. The residents believe that the decision to sell was an unfair one.

The residents have formed an interim committee headed by former GPL Chairman, Ronald Ali and he said, the residents are extremely angry over the developments.

The purported owner has placed a fence and a no trespassing sign around the land. The residents vowed to take back the land if the Government is not forthcoming about the transaction.

The disputed play field was reportedly sold for just around 25 million dollars. Lamaha Gardens’ residents say that the land is just over 33,000 square feet and was used as a play field for children in the community way back in the 1960s.
