Security Firm feels shut out – 5th Jan 2013
The Guyana Association of Private Security Organisations (GAPSO), is raising concerns over what they feel is a secretive tender for security services by the Ministry of Local Government.
Executive member of GAPSO, George Gomes said, the issue has to do with an article appearing in the press about opening of tenders by the Ministry of Local Government throughout all the regions of Guyana. He said, what is more alarming is that only three security firms tendered, all believed to have political connections to the ruling party. He said the association knew nothing of any publication in any newspaper or Government website inviting tenders for the projects. GAPSO is calling for the tender process to be re-advertised publicly.
The three security services that tendered are Strategic Action Security, Homesafe security and RK’s Security services. Gomes said it is strange to think that out of twenty odd contract security companies only three would have been interested in such a large project. GAPSO is feeling shut out of the process.
GAPSO is hoping that good sense prevails and that there will be a level playing field for all.
