Fire Chief wants families to take a greater interest in fire prevention – 5th Jan 2013

shot0001The casual excuses offered by some parents in the aftermath of fires that resulted in deaths are worrying to Chief Fire Officer, Marlon Gentle.

The Fire Chief is calling for measures to be put in place to address this topical issue. Just recently, a 23-day-old baby perished in a fire after she was left unattended with her 6-year-old brother, who managed to escape unhurt. Gentle said, that the Guyana Fire Service intends to be vocal on the issue especially with the expansion of the housing sector.

He said, the Fire Service would continue to preach prevention as the Fire Service forges partnerships with key stakeholders.

Last week the head of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce, Clinton Urling, called for the capacity of the Guyana Fire Service to be enhanced. He feels that policy makers have a substantial role to play in the process.
