Two die in East Coast Demerara Smash-up – 4th Jan 2013
The police are expected to file charges against the driver of this Tundra motor vehicle, following last night’s smash up with a mini-bus at Mon Repos, on the East Coast Demerara.
Two persons were killed in that accident and several others injured.
According to reports, the mini-bus was heading to the city when the Tundra turned out from the nearby cross street and collided head on with the bus.
Dead are mini-bus driver, Godfrey Daniels and Shondell Yaw, a school teacher of the BV Primary school.
The injured were removed from the scene by public-spirited citizens and transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Some of the injured were treated and sent away while others remained overnight to receive further medical attention.
A police source told this newscast that the driver of the pick up was reportedly over the legal alcohol limit at the time of the accident.
The man managed to escape with a few minor injuries about his body.
The Guyana Police Force traffic department, the road safety council, and other groups have been appealing to drivers to be more cautious on the road, but so far for this year it appears that those calls have fallen on deaf ears.
