PNC’s General Secretary, Oscar Clarke, shot – 30th Jan 2013
The opposition party, the People’s National Congress (PNC), has described the incident where its General Secretary was shot during a robbery as another example of the precarious crime situation which is facing Guyana at the moment.
The Police were scouring several areas in the Capital City Georgetown last night, after General Secretary, Oscar Clarke, was shot during a robbery at his house.
Clarke lives with his wife Linda in an area called Plum Park Sophia, less than a mile away from the Party’s Headquarters.
Initial Reports, according to Senior Police sources, around 8:45 pm, Clarke was shot when bandits invaded his home demanding jewelry and other items. He was rushed to a city Hospital and then transferred to the main Public Hospital, the Georgetown Hospital, where he was being monitored by the doctors for wounds to his side and lacerations on his scalp.
According to senior PNC officials, Clarke’s condition was listed as stable and had a warhead lodged just below the Hip. A surgeon is expected to decide later this morning whether surgery would be performed to remove it.
Oscar Clarke, 74, served in various Public Offices in Guyana and was once Guyana’s Ambassador in Africa.
