Clive Lloyd describes GCB elections as illegal – 30th Jan 2013
Cricket Administration in Guyana continues to be under a cloud before and after the elections which were held last Sunday. The Chairman of the Government installed, IMC, Clive Lloyd, has even been quoted in the press as saying that those elections were illegal. The WICB, meanwhile seems satisfied with the events of the past week, having sent down two of its executives to observe the AGM and the subsequent voting. It is also satisfied that the executives are properly performing their various functions as members of the Board.
The Government believes that it has an injunction, restraining the members of the GCB from performing duties as the GCB and the members who were elected believe that they are not prevented by the courts from performing their duties.
And the Clerk of the National Assembly is inviting cricket enthusiasts and other concerned persons, to make their views known by way of letter to a special select committee of Parliament. The Minister of Sport introduced a Cricket Administration Bill, which was sent to a select committee for refining. Any submissions must be made to the committees division of the National Assembly by the 15th of February.
Requests to make oral submissions to the committee can also be directed to the committees division of the National Assembly. Copies of the Bill are available at the Parliament office or on its website.
