Argument between two men ends in murder in broad daylight – 30th Jan 2013
Barker was shot at point blank range following a scuffle with a suspect on Durban Street this morning.
The incident was witnessed by one of Barker’s close friends. He told reporters that he and the dead man would normally move around the city and collect bottles. He said on a daily basis one of the stops they would make is on Durban Street at Pearl’s Bakery, where a bag of tennis rolls is usually given to each vagrant.
He said the after shooting, the perpetrator calmly walked away. He said, Barker was there lying in a pool of blood for minutes despite pleading for help.
Barker’s reputed wife and mother of his three children and other relatives were on the scene; they expressed outrage at the shooting.
Barker’s relatives said that his shooting death was a clear case of persons taking advantage of people they perceive to be junkies.
