West Demerara family mourns the death of newborn who died in fire – 25th Jan 2013
6-year-old, James Fowler, managed to escape the flames of the deadly fire at Stewartville West Coast Demerara, but his 23-day-old baby sister was not so fortunate.
The two were left alone when tragedy struck. Five persons occupied the building but no adult was there with the kids.
It is unclear how the fire started, but Olinka Fowler said she got word around 8:30 that her home was on fire. She said when she got to the scene, the entire building was engulfed in flames.
A next-door neighbour said she heard a crashing and an unusual sound, she decided to look out and saw the fire inside of the building.
The Guyana Fire Service quickly rushed to the scene, but the building was already burnt to the ground. An investigation to ascertain the origin is still ongoing.
