Demerara defeats GT&T Bernice in final round of GCB Inter-County cricket – 23rd Jan 2013
Demerara lost 6 wickets as they beat GT&T Berbice by 4 wickets at the Everest cricket ground in the final round of the GCB inter-county 4-day competition. Demerara reached 79/6 in their second innings in reply to Berbice scores of 155 and 200. For Demerara, Hemraj made 33, Williams 9 and Bacchus 10. The GCB has been very busy in past the few weeks as it seeks to get the domestic and other competitions up and running. According to a Board official, the recent flurry of activity can only help in the revival of cricket in Guyana.
The MILO Schools U-20 Football Tournament got under-way last Saturday with 3 games. In Game 1 Charlestown blanked North G/Town 4-0, with Barron Dick scoring a double Brandsford and Naughton the other scorers.
Game 2 saw Christ Church having a goal spree finding the nets 6 times.
Andre Trotz , Myron Joseph, scoring doubles and the other 2 goals coming from Kadeem Blackman and Jovotay best-selling. The 3rd game was also a one sided affair with Tucville beating St. John’s College 4 goals to none. Hubern Blair getting a hat-trick and Denzil Green the other scorer.
On Sunday the action continued with St. George’s squeezing 2 goals from the boot of Azuma Small past Tutorial High in game one.
In Game 2, Cummings Lodge Secondary was edged out 3/2 by Bishops High and South Ruimveldt Secondary and Queens College played to an exciting 3-3 draw. Stephen Rutherford of qu scoring a hat-trick .
All the games were played at the Ministry of Education Ground on Carifesta Avenue .The action continues at the same venue this weekend.
