Craft and Arts Association seeks budgetary assistance – 23rd Jan 2013

President of the Craft and Arts Association, Edward Luke-King said, the time has come for the establishment of a special fund and also for the Government to provide budgetary assistance, so that its members can access capital financing to support their enterprises.

He identified the buying of raw materials as one of the major issues facing craft dealers.

King says the Craft and Arts industry has the potential to become a multi- million dollar sector.

In his 2012 Budget Presentation, Finance Minister Ashni Singh recognised small and medium enterprises (SMEs) as part of the Government’s agenda for transforming the economy.

The Minister said in village economies, SMEs make a substantial contribution in creating productive employment and generating incomes in  areas like agriculture, agro-processing, arts and craft.
