Speaker and Clerk of the National Assembly face off over amendments – 16th Jan 2013
The controversial amendments sought by the Governing party to a motion brought by the Leader of the opposition, continues to be a topic for discussion. Now, one day after Clerk of the National Assembly, Sherlock Isaacs, released a letter to the Speaker about the said amendments and the Speaker’s perceived public castigation of the Clerk, Speaker Raphael Trotman, has penned a response saying that he was taken aback last Thursday.
Trotman was at pains to explain at a press briefing on Tuesday that he has the highest regard for the Clerk of the National Assembly and his staff and stressed too, that in this tenth Parliament, extra care must be taken with all that is said and done. Trotman said he was dismayed to learn of Isaacs’ letter to him at his press conference, at which time he had not received the letter.
Trotman said that Isaacs was in his opinion very experienced and that should have informed his actions in this 10th Parliament.
