Labourer’s hand had to be amputated after coming into contact with a live power cable – 14th Jan 2013

shot0007Legal action could be brought against the utility company, GPL, following that Stabroek Market electrical wire incident that landed a man in hospital.

The company is not all at fault. GPL’s release to the press indicates that a truck came into contact with an overhead wire causing it to snap and fall to the ground.

The victim, Asgar Mohamed, lost one of his hands after coming into contact with the live wire that was left hanging on the road in the vicinity of the Stabroek Square.

Eyewitnesses told reporters that the live wire was there for several minutes. They added that calls were made to the utility company to disconnect the power.
