Haags- Bosch landfill site to be redesigned to increase efficiency and self-sufficiency – 9th Jan 2013
The Haags Bosch landfill site is being redesigned to make it more efficient and self sufficient. One of the ways announced by Junior Finance Minister Juan Edghill was a tipping fee for garbage trucks using the new landfill site.
The Minister said since the opening of the site, Government was standing the cost through the Inter-Development Bank grant agreement. Edghill believes that with the grant coming to an end in a few months ways would have to be developed for the landfill site to be sustainable.
Both the City Mayor and his Deputy have committed towards working with Government, despite the constant financial strain experienced by the council.
After repeated calls by City Hall, the Government is now looking to re-examine the operating hours of the landfill site, more so when it should close for the day according to Local Government Minister, Norman Whittaker.
An aggressive education campaign is expected to be rolled out as a way to sensitise the public about proper garbage disposal and the importance of keeping a clean environment.
