Talks commence about raising funds to erect a separate monument on Parade Ground – 7th Jan 2013
With all the controversy surrounding the construction site for the 1823 monument there are now talks about raising funds to erect a separate monument on Parade Ground.
On Sunday, the African Coalition and other groups held an afternoon of reflection, knowledge sharing and a libation ceremony at the Parade Ground. This is after the Government decided to move ahead with its plans to position the 1823 Monument on Carifesta Avenue.
The activists are contending that the slaves who participated in the uprising were slaughtered at the Parade Ground. And the monument should be placed there to commemorate that despicable action.
The African Guyanese Groups and some prominent individuals also point out that then President Jagdeo had participated in a sod-turning exercise for the monument at the Parade Ground.
