City Hall probe finds officials guilty of reckless incompetence – 28th Dec 2012
The audit report into financial irregularities at City Hall has revealed many of the senior officers of the council to be culpable of recklessness and incompetence; Minister within the Ministry of local Government, Norman Whittaker, disclosed this today.
According to Whittaker, the Attorney General, the Minister of Labour and Cabinet are now reviewing the findings of the Auditors report.
Whittaker said his Ministry is also going through the report to determine what course of action will be taken.
The Town Clerk, Treasurer and other senior officials were sent on leave to facilitate the probe. This was after consultant, Raymond Gaskin, working along with the Keith Borrowers, unearthed financial irregularities and phantom staff on the council’s pay role.
And speaking about the council’s no-confidence against the acting Town Clerk the Minister said, that the council is still to present any details of the reason for the motion. He said, however, the ultimate power is in the hands of the Minister to determine.
While the Ministry is saying they are supportive of the council to clean the city the council is saying that the Ministry’s support is not forthcoming.
