22-year-old dies in Hit-and-Run accident – 21st Dec 2012
With the year coming to an end, it appears as though the craziness on our roadways is continuing non-stop. Police investigators are probing the death of 22-year-old, Rodwell Brummell, who was savagely killed while walking his girlfriend home at the corner of Lamaha and Carmichael Streets last evening. A car slammed into the young man pitching his body for yards. The driver of the car never stopped and sped away from the scene. Passers-by quickly rushed to the young man’s assistance but it was too late. He was killed on the spot. He sustained severe injuries to his face and head and upper body.
An eyewitness said, the scene was gut wrenching as the girlfriend cried out in agony. The two were just a few buildings away from where he lived. The young man who worked at Farfan and Mendes, attended the Mackenzie High School in Linden and friends there remember him as very kind and always respectful. They are shocked over his passing and the way his young life was snuffed out. Police sources say they are following a number of leads in their search for the driver and the motor car. Persons at the scene described the car as being red in colour and the police were able to recover a bumper for the car at the scene.
2012 has seen an increase in road fatalities and the Police Traffic Department as well as the Road Safety Council have been pushing a call for more safety and care on the country’s roadways.
