GTU representative takes Union to court – 19th Dec 2012
A court battle between a Union Representative of the Guyana Teachers Union and the Union’s General Council is looming after the suspended rep took the Union to court.
Milne Seymour, representative of the GTU Plaisance branch, said, the General Council suspended him from that position and is preventing him from performing his duties as Chairman and General Council rep, even though a court order has been served on the Union. He said, he was a Presidential Candidate at the last GTU elections and because he challenged the elections in court he was shut out.
The Union is contending that Seymour’s action is aimed at bringing the Union into disrepute. Seymour, through his attorney, was able to secure a motion against the GTU. His attorney, Dennis Paul, is contending that the General Council is in breach of the principles of natural justice and their action is null and void and of no effect.
The matter concerning Seymour’s suspension will be heard before Justice Brassington Reynolds, on the 11th February next year.
