Authorities launch full scale investigation into Pomeroon River boat collision – 19th Dec 2012
The authorities have launched a full scale investigation into Tuesday evening’s boat collision in the Pomeroon River, that left 6 persons dead including 3 children. This is one of the worst river accidents in recent years and once again brings into focus the safety of speedboats especially in the evening, when many of them are not equipped with lights.
There have been efforts to make some speedboats much safer but those efforts have not been enforced across the country.
The pomeroon river tragedy occurred when a speed boat collided with a boat belonging to the region 2 administration. At the time of the collision the regional chairman was on board the boat along with staffers of the one laptop per family programme. They all escaped with few injuries. An investigation continues this evening.
