Gold declaration continues upward climb – 14th Dec 2012
Gold declaration is continuing its upward climb with the Guyana Gold Board declaring a whopping 403,000 ounces of gold so far for this year.
And that figure could go up. According to an elated Natural Resources, Minister Robert Persaud, that amount was up to today’s date. The Minister said, the gold declared is valued close to 658 million US dollars. He said, at the height of its operations Omai’s gold earnings was just around 123 million US dollars.
And President of the Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners Association, Patrick Harding, is encouraging miners to work together. Leakages through our porous borders and illegal mining are just two of the major concerns to the miners association.
Both the president of the GGDMA and the Minister said, the achievement is a proud one but there are some issues that have to be addressed.
The price for gold on the world market is just over 1,600 US per ounce.
