Digicel sees nothing forthcoming from the Government on issue of liberalization in the sector – 13th Dec 2012

Digicel Guyana is coming to the end of another year and is frustrated at seeing no movement on the issue of liberalization in the sector. This is according to Country Manager, Gregory Dean, who listed the launching of new sites and their work in the social sector as some of the Year’s highlights.

Dean says, Digicel has been meeting with the Government to address the issue of Liberalization but he has seen nothing forthcoming. The CEO said, his company has seen the proposed legislation put forward by the Government and the Alliance for Change and will be happy to work within what is proposed.

Dean says, the ideal situation he would like to see, is a level playing field in the sector and the opportunity to achieve increased coverage. Digicel he says has invested some $70 million US dollars into the Guyana market and like any investor would want to see a healthy return on investment.
