Opposition believes 5% imposed increase is inadequate – 4th Dec 2012
Opposition leader David Granger believes that the 5% imposed by the Government on public servants is almost an insult and is inadequate.
The GPSU was pushing for a 25% increase across the board saying, that their proposals were based on research done by the union.
The PNC/R leader is calling on the Government to go back to the bargaining table and stop the imposition. Granger was speaking during an interview with this newscast.
The union had earlier expressed its willingness to go back to the bargaining table after some frustrating exchanges with the PS of the Public Service Ministry.
GPSU accused the Government of hijacking the negotiation process by unilaterally declaring unrealistic awards to its employees. Granger said his party supports a higher figure.
The union was hoping for a change of fortunes and was willing to give the new Government a chance to make things right with the union.
