Caribbean Airlines starts non-stop service to Toronto – 4th Dec 2012
It took some time in coming and some concern from passengers for Caribbean Airlines to begin non-stop service to Toronto, Canada. Some of that wait had to do with what the Government of Guyana wanted, and today too, in the presence of Caribbean Airlines Chairman and CEO, Guyana Tourism Minister said, the Government of Guyana had accorded flag carrier status between Guyana and Canada.
The Chairman of Caribbean Airlines, Rabindra Moonan, said that for years there has been a love hate relationship between the Airline and Guyana. The Airline loved Guyana but Guyanese did not always like the way Caribbean Airlines did business here. He was confident that over the years that relationship has changed and will continue to be one built on mutual love.
Caribbean Airlines non-stop service to Toronto will operate twice weekly for now. Guyana’s Minister of Transport, Robeson Benn and Tourism Minister (ag), Irfaan Ali, were at the CJIA to welcome the new service. Minister Benn noted the commitment that the regional carrier has made to The Guyana market.
Recently, Caribbean Airlines had to fly in a high level team to assist in the ferrying of passengers in and out of Guyana after low cost carrier EZ Jet folded.
Caribbean Airlines, and its predecessor BWIA, has been in Guyana market for over 6 decades
