Everest Hikers defeat GCC to hoist Diamond Mineral Water Trophy for 5th time – 3rd Dec 2012
Everest Hikers ground out a 5 goals to 4 victory over old rivals GCC, at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue, to hoist the Diamond Mineral Water trophy for the 5th time.
Devin Munroe scored a double and he was supported by Tristan Gomes, Brian Asregado and Sheldon Corlette . For GCC, the experienced duo of Alan and Phillip Fernandes accounted for three goals, with Alan scoring a double and Devin Hooper the other.
According to Hikers’ Devin Munroe, the tournament was of a very high standard.
In the women’s clash, Toronto Academy inflicted a 6-2 beating on Trinidad’s Magnolias, with Academy’s captain saying, that the experience of playing in Guyana was good for her team and that they will be back next year.
President of the Hockey Board, Phillip Fernades, said, he was happy at the high levels of play and organization of the tournament.
He also used the opportunity to thank the sponsors for making the tournament a memorable one, especially for the visiting teams. Feranades also said, they have received commitments from teams from Barbados, Trinidad and Canada, men and women teams, to participate next year.
