World of Sport – 29th Nov 2012
Just over a week ago, leading members of the Golden Jaguars, Guyana’s National football squad, including its captain, Chris Nurse, had circulated e-mails to the press about what they saw as incompetence from the handlers of Guyana’s football. One of the claims was that late communication by the GFF had dearly cost some players. Well former Head Coach, Jamaal Shabazz said, that since qualifying for the second stage of the World Cup, something went wrong.
Shabazz who said an emotional goodbye to the football fraternity yesterday, said it took much effort to keep the players in check.
Shabazz said the players are much more aware of the issues surrounding football and they have worked hard for what they see as their due.
He also gave notice that he will be pursuing the promise of land made to the players, by former President, Bharrat Jagdeo.
Several players have stated that they cannot continue to play for this country under the present situation.
And the organisers of the Kashif and Shanghai Football Tournament will be honouring the late founder of Bakewell, Naeem Nasir, when the tournament kicks off in 17 days. According to Kashif Mohamed, Bakewell has been with the tournament from the start and it would only be fitting to pay tribute to one of the pillars of the tournament. Bakewell also handed over its contribution to the organisers and wished them a successful tournament .
