Another cocaine bust in the city, Over 700lbs found in boxes of soap powder – 29th Nov 2012
The drug dealers in this country do not appear to be willing to leave any stone or container unturned in their efforts to get the cocaine out of Guyana. Over 700 pounds of cocaine was today busted at the John Fernandes container yard here in Georgetown stashed in boxes of breeze soap powder that were being loaded as part of a container shipment to an African country.
Narcotics agents swooped down on the Mandela Avenue location and made the bust. The person who was getting ready to make the shipment was also arrested and is said to be assisting the authorities with their probe.
Capitol News understands that a number of other containers were also examined and there is expected to be increased examination of containers leaving the country. A few weeks back a container from Guyana destined for Africa with cans of coconut milk was busted with cocaine over in Malaysia. The manager of the coconut milk company here in Guyana was today charged and sentenced to jail for drug trafficking.
