Golden Jaguars’ Head Coach, Jamaal Shabazz resigns – 28th Nov 2012
An emotional Jamaal Shabazz bade farewell to Guyana football at a press conference, where he disclosed that the Future of football in Guyana is dim, but its prospects are bright. In a wide ranging interview, he said it is with sadness he was leaving the scene, but his family, Trinidad and Tobago and his beleaguered community of Laventille needed him more.
Shabazz made it clear that his departure had nothing to do with the public stance taken by members of the Golden Jaguars who have called for the resignation of 2 members of the GFF Executive Committee. In what could be seen as a public disagreement with the GFF’s administration. The former Technical Director constantly hammered the GFF for what he called, ancient thinking in the decisions they made.
Shabazz said that the Government has a role to play in the advancement of football.
Shabazz said he had the utmost respect for the members of the GFF executive, but that there needs to be urgent reshaping of the way things are done, to keep in touch with the fast paced nature of modern sport.
Guyana’s mystery lady Boxer, Shondell Alfred, says, she will have to cool her heels for just over a year as she prepares for the arrival of her baby.
Alfred was due for a crack at the vacant WBC Super fly-weight title last Saturday in Mexico, but was discovered to be 2 weeks pregnant, after an examination by doctors in Mexico just hours before the fight.
Alfred expressed her disappointment at the developments and apologized to the public for not getting what she felt would have been another deserving world title.
