WICB rejects Guyana delegation at Directors Meeting – 27th Nov 2012
There may be more to Guyana’s non-submission of its team to the WICB for the Caribbean 2013 20/20 cup. Approaches were made to the WICB for a delegation from Guyana to attend the Directors meeting. That request was turned down since no other Government delegation was invited. A team headed by Minister of Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony, and which we understand included Clive Lloyd Major General Retired, Norman Mc Clean, however, turned up in Trinidad and tried to attend the meeting but were not allowed to.
This newscast understands too, that the WICB President met with the Delegation separate from the Directors meeting.
Coming out of the Directors meeting the WICB restated that it is concerned at the length of time it is taking for the Guyana situation to be resolved and called on all the parties involved to ensure that Guyana cricket returns to an acceptable level in the shortest possible time. The Board also made it clear that it recognizes the GCB as the sole authority to administer cricket in Guyana.
Minister of Sport Dr. Frank Anthony is reported in the print media as saying that the Government knew of no deadline to submit a team.
The WICB says it will be contacting the authorities here to give them a new date for Guyana’s submission of a team. While Guyana’s cricket continue to be run by an Interim Management Committee, headed by Clive Lloyd, the WICB says that players and match officials from Guyana continue to be involved in all tournaments organized by the WICB.
