Man kills partner on International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women – 26th Nov 2012
A 39-year-old woman and a mother of three was killed by her abusive partner with whom who she shared a common law relationship for five years. The incident occurred at the couple’s Cummings Lodge East Coast Demerara home Sunday morning.
The woman was identified as Indranie Sugrim. She was stabbed multiple times about the body. Her sister Radha Surgrim told reporters that she heard the couple arguing, she said she paid it no mind since it was nothing unusual. Moments later Radha was greeted with news of her sister’s death. She said her sister’s lifeless body was discovered in the bedroom of her home.
Surgim’s mother, children and other relatives were in a state of shock and inconsolable as they rushed to the scene. Her bother spoke of the distress the death of his sister will cause the family.
As word got around a crowd quickly converged on the scene. The woman’s body was taken to the Lyken Funeral home.
Her assailant fled the scene through the back yard of the house into the Cummings Lodge Back-lands.
