Three families pondering their next move after fire destroy homes – 23rd Nov 2012
Eight persons from three families are now homeless, following an early morning fire in Alexander Village, which gutted two buildings. The origin is still to be determined, but Wallace Trotman, one of the victims said, since last evening they were experiencing some on and off power disruptions. The fire was started at his home. He said, before he left for work this morning, he was getting an unusual scent as though something was burning.
Carline Trotman, sister of the victim said, they were unable to save anything from the flames and put the losses in excess of 12 million dollars.
Nishell Young, another victim, who lives nearby said, she was caught up in the rescue of the 80-year-old woman that was in the house at the time, where the fire started. She said, she watched helplessly as all her years and hard labour burnt to the ground.
The Guyana Fire Service was prompt in their arrival and managed to control the fire from spreading. The origin of the fire is still to be determined.
