Over 1,400 graduate at UG’s 46th Convocation – Nov 12th 2012
It seemed to be a never ending procession as over 1400 students, each appeared on stage to receive their certificates at the 46th Convocation of the University of Guyana. The ceremony was held on the square of the Turkeyen Campus on Saturday afternoon.
Speaking to the thousands in attendance on his inaugural convocation address, President Donald Ramotar said, that efforts must be made to ensure the institution’s improvement, since Guyana’s development, will be reliant on educated minds.
President Ramotar went on to say that the process to strengthen the University of Guyana would take time and significant resources.
For an outstanding four years of scholarship, this year’s valedictorian, Safrawz Shaief, a technology student, was awarded the President’s Medal.
Since the University’s establishment in 1963, over 15000 students have graduated and moved on to careers both locally and Internationally.
