Agricola teens die in East Bank crash – Nov 9th 2012

A 42-year-old Taxi Driver from East Ruimveldt, Dave Gavin Welcome, was today charged with Trafficking in Narcotics and sentenced to 4 years in prison, after he was busted at the Cheddi Jagan Airport early this morning, with over 5 lbs of cocaine stashed in the false sides of his suitcases. The man appeared in court just hours after the bust, pleaded guilty and was sentenced. He was also fined $30,000.

The man was getting ready to board a Caribbean Airlines flight to New York when he was busted. According to reports, CANU agents noticed something strange in his suitcase while it was going through the airport’s scanner and a physical check revealed the cocaine stash in the false sides of his suitcases. He was questioned and taken into custody.

There have been a number of drug busts at the Cheddi Jagan Airport for this year already. Drug pushers appear to be stepping up their efforts to get the cocaine out.
