Banks DIH is continuing to throw its weight behind street football, with the launch of the 4th Guinness Greatest of the Streets Tournament. The games are set to start this Saturday at the Albuoystown Basketball Court, starting at 6 in the evening. This year, the organisers have split the competition into 4 Zones; Bartica, Berbice, Linden and Georgetown. The winners of each zone will play in a National competition next year, with the champion going on to represent Guyana in the Guinness Caribbean Tournament,
The Georgetown zone will have 32 teams and over 2 million dollars in prize money will be up for grabs.
The organisers are hoping for bigger numbers at the games this year.
West Indies’ three-day warm-up match against a Bangladesh Cricket board has been called off because of the condition of the outfield at the ground in Savar.
The ground, according to reports out of Bangladesh, is noted for its poor drainage. West Indies Coach and Captain, were hopeful that the Squqa would still be able to get in some practice ahead of Next Tuesday’s first Test.
And the Kashif and Shanghai year-end tournament has received support from Beverage Giant DDL. Marketing Manager, Alexis Langhorne, made the presentation and said, the Company is impressed with how the tournament is organised, hence their support.
Kashif Mohamed received the undisclosed sum on behalf of the organisers and said, they welcome DDL’s support, which is now there for the 3rd year running.
