One Laptop Probe still underway – Nov 5th 2012
A probe continues into the disappearance of over 200 laptops that were apart of the Government’s One Laptop Per Family programme and which should have been distributed to needy families across the country.
It’s been months now since a probe began and some workers from the project were sent home pending the outcome of the investigation but they remain home and in the dark about what’s going on with the investigation.
One current employee of the project told Capitol News that was is worrying is that some of the persons sent home never worked in the department where the laptops were stored and may have not been able to play any part in the disappearance.
The laptops were removed from the programme’s Queenstown head office and reportedly sold at low prices to persons in outlying communities. None of the laptops have been recovered so far and the project continues with new management.
The theft may have been ongoing for months before it was first realized. Former President Bharrat Jagdeo has been overlooking some aspects of the project since he left office.
