CJIA expansion to commence in six months
Focus will now be shifted on the squatters aback the CJIA, since in six months time, work on the expansion of the runway and the construction of a new airport terminal are expected to start. This comes after the Government of Guyana signed a 130 million US dollar deal with the Chinese Government. President Ramotar said, the airport expansion is all part of Government’s development plan.
This view was also restated by Works Minister, Robeson Benn, who said, that this development could secure us air transportation for the next 50 years.

There have been several questions raised about the competence and the credentials of the Chinese contractor, China Harbour Engineering Company, that won the contract bid.
