Police lends support to Agricola
The Guyana Police Force, through the force’s Scout group, is working to repair its image with the community of Agricola. According to commander of the A division, Assistant Commissioner of Police, George Vyphuis, though it may seem as a new exercise, this relationship started some two years ago.
He said, that the killing of Shaquille Grant was unfortunate. The Guyana Police Force has already placed three officers before the courts for that murder.
According to Vyphuis, the aim is to remove some of the negative stigma that is attached to the community. He said, that the project is receiving the support of corporate Guyana .
He spoke of educational and skills training programmes that are on the cards.
Welton Clarke, who is one of the community leaders said, that getting young people to channel their energies in the right way was the focus of the leadership group.
Fingers were pointed at political leaders after the recent unrest in the community, following statements made by Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Roger Luncheon.
Several persons were robbed by elements who used the protest as a cover for their activities.
