GWI sensitises business community on the disposal and treatment of wastewater
Members of the business community were brought together to learn more about the disposal and treatment of wastewater. The forum was organized by the Guyana Water Inc, and is all part of the Georgetown Sanitation Improvement Programme. According to Minister Irfaan Ali, who has responsibility for the water Sector, this is a significant milestone.
The programme will be executed in phases, which will see the removal of nearly 6 kilometres of existing pipes and delivery mains and the laying of new ones around Georgetown. New pumps will also be provided for the 24 pumping stations. Several disruptions will take place, with traffic expected to be diverted from several streets to facilitate the excavation of some roads and the breaking of bridges.
