Embattled businessman and Roger Khan Associate Ricardo Rodrigues shot dead
Embattled businessman and Roger Khan Associate, Ricardo Rodrigues, was executed in a hail of gunfire at the Pit Stop Food Bar in the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club compound on Albert Street. At least two other men were shot and are nursing those wounds this evening.
It was just a week ago that Rodrigues turned himself into the police after a wanted bulletin was issued for him in connection with a probe into a large arms and ammunition bust in the Lethem area.
Rodrigues was kept overnight for questioning, but was later released on $100,000 bail even as that probe continued.
At the scene, persons in the area said, they heard heavy gunfire coming from the compound and it went on for a while. One man who requested that his identity not be revealed said, he saw persons who appeared injured trying to run from the food bar area.
Some persons who were close by said, they saw some men dressed in black jumping into a car and heading out of the compound just after they heard the heavy gunfire. Police sources say from all appearances, the gunmen said to be two or three in number, had carefully planned the execution.
The heavy gunfire even hit part of the Critchlow Labor College building nearby and employees there were forced to dash to the ground, fearing the worst. No one was injured there.
Family members and close friends gathered in the compound as the police moved in and began their investigation. A number of spent shells were recovered. Rodrigues was shot multiple times to the upper body.
