West Indies Cricket Board to receive 3 million USD over the next 3 years from the ICC

Football: Guyana’s Golden Jaguars play Mexico on Friday, in its World Cup Qualifying campaign, that effectively ended with their defeat against El Salvador at the Providence Stadium in September. The game was moved to Texas in the United States at the request of the Guyana Football Federation, for purely financial considerations, the Federation said in a statement last week. This was also after seeking the necessary approvals from the World and Regional governing bodies FIFA and CONCACAF.

Guyana’s Golden Jaguars created history by reaching the second round of the qualifiers for the first time.

Cricket: The West Indies Cricket board will receive 3 million USD over the next 3 years from the ICC as part of a Target Assistance and Performance Programme being introduced by the ICC for low ranked teams on the ICC list. Zimbabwe and the Netherlands are also to benefit from that programme. And former Indian leg-spinner, Anil Kumble, has replaced West Indies legend, Clive Lloyd as the Chairman of the ICC‘s prestigious Cricket Committee. Lloyd was asked to stay on for several months after his term had expired.  Former West Indies fast bowler, now turned commentator, Trinidadian, Ian bishop, did not seek re-election as a players representative to that committee. His place has been taken by former England Captain, Andrew Strauss. LLoyd has been at the helm of the Government appointed IMC which is enquiring into the affairs of Guyana’s cricket. That body has reached the stage of producing a constitution which is to be accepted by the 3 territorial boards, before elections of a new cricket Board takes place.

Basketball: Pacesetters will play Colours Panthers in the finals of the Pepsi Sonics Refresh your game basketball tournament at the Burnham court on Sunday. This 3rd division final will take place at 7 in the evening and will be followed by the main game; a first division clash between Dyna Ravens and Colts, that game bounces off at 9. Demerara Distillers Limited is the main sponsor of the tournament.
