Former Auditor General of Guyana Anand Goolsarran launches book on improving Public Accountability
The issue of public accountability has been addressed in a publication by a former Auditor General of Guyana. The title of the book is Improving Public Accountability and is a compilation of Goolsarran’s experiences and research, which he used while pursuing a doctoral Degree. Anand Goolsarran served as Auditor General of Guyana for 15 years, leaving in a shroud of secrecy in 2005, to take up a post at the UN in New York.
The Book was launched by the Guyana Chapter of Transparency International and its Head, Attorney-at-Law, Gino Persaud, said, the publication is a necessary one given the situation in Guyana.
Goolsarran said, The issue of Public Accountability was always important to him and he spared no effort to ensure its preservation, sometimes without success. He has credited the present administration for the return of Audited Public accounts being laid in the National assembly.
He emphasized some of the key concepts in improving confidence in Public Accountability.
Goolsarran said the Publication was launched in a small way in Toronto Canada 4 years ago, but he was still working at a UN post, so he withheld the Guyana launch because of possible reprisals from the administration.
