Fuel spill occurred in the Demerara River
This was the scene in the Demerara River in the Kingston area late this afternoon following a fuel spill in the river just behind the GPL power station.
Reports suggest that during the transfer of fuel from a storage facility to one of the tankers for the power station, a pipe burst and over 100 gallons of fuel gushed into the river. The fire service was called in as well as officials from the environmental protection agency. This afternoon, it appeared as though the situation was put under control.
