Three policemen were this morning charged with the murder of 17-year-old Agricola youth, Shaquille Grant

Three policemen were this morning charged with the murder of 17-year-old Agricola youth, Shaquille Grant. Just one of the policemen appeared in court to face charges. The other two who went into hiding just after the shooting incident are still to be located and this morning arrests warrants were issued for them.

The 3 policemen charged are Constable Terrence Wallace, Corporal Warren Blue and Special Constable Jamal Lewis.

Constable Wallace, was the only one to appear in court and was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge. As he made his way out of the court, he hid his face from the lens of the cameras and the persons who had gathered outside the courthouse. He is to return to court on October 11th.

With arrest warrants being issued for Corporal Warren Blue and Special Constable Jamal Lewis, it remains unclear whether the Police Force will now release their photographs so that the public could assist in offering information about their possible whereabouts.

The prosecution’s case is that on the day in question, September 11th, at Caesar Street Agricola, the three policemen entered a yard where a group of young men were sitting and they shot and killed the 17-year-old, Shaquille Grant.

That shooting death led to several protest actions and reports are that it was just around that time that 2 of the 3 policemen who were placed on desk duty, went into hiding. The Police Commissioner had told this newscast that he had asked that the men be put on lockdown and it was then that he was told that 2 of the 3 police ranks could not be located. At least one of the two who has gone into hiding has been in contact with an Attorney.

Shaquille Grant died on the spot after he was shot 3 times to the body. Eyewitnesses said he was first shot to his side and later shot to the center of his head and the buttocks. After the first gunshot, the other young men who were in his company said he cried out for help indicating to the policemen that he was injured. It was then they said, that he was shot again. Another young man also received gunshot injuries and was taken into custody but later released.
