Guyana Government announced replacement of Ambassador to Brazil, Kellewan Lall

The Guyana Government today announced, that it has replaced Ambassador to Brazil, former Local Government Minister, Kellewan Lall. The Foreign Affairs Ministry in a statement said, Lall was being replaced by former Ambassador to Suriname, Merlin Udho, who in the past worked at various missions overseas and the United Nations.

The statement did not give any reason for the replacement of Kellewan Lall.

When Lall was appointed by former President Bharrat Jagdeo, the move was heavily criticized by the opposition and a number of groups owing to Lall’s alleged involvement in a hit and run and also a gun shooting incident, as well as a bar brawl.

Jagdeo ignored all the protests and still went ahead with the appointment. The Government of Brazil took some time before it accepted the Ambassador. It remains unclear what new role the Guyana Government, under President Donald Ramotar, will find for Kellewan Lall.
