General Secretary of the Guyana Teachers Union calls for a review of the assault penalties
General Secretary of the Guyana Teachers Union, Coretta Morris, is calling for a review of the assault penalties. Her comments were made after a parent was place on bond and fined $10,000, for assaulting two teachers of Craig Primary School. Morris is calling on the authorities to seriously address the situation.
A few months back when angry parents assaulted teachers at the Charlestown Secondary Cchool, improvements in security arrangements were promised to. The teachers union said, that they are still waiting to see those arrangements put in place.
Last Thursday, a parent barged into the Craig Primary School and assaulted two teachers. The incident stemmed from a conflict between the woman’s child and another pupil. According to the teachers, the woman became angry after she was cautioned by the teachers.
