Audited report into financial irregularities at City Hall expected to be with local Government Ministry

Over the next 9 days, the audited report into the financial irregularities at City Hall, is expected to be with the Local Government Ministry, however, the Police findings are expected later.

At a press briefing today Local Government Minister, Ganga Persaud, said, that his patience is running out, but he understands the magnitude of the investigations.

The Minister pointed to what he calls complexities, which he went on to highlight. He said, that the six officers would be given additional leave to facilitate the outcome of the probe.

The Local Government Minister sent the Town Clerk, Treasurer, and City Engineer, and other officials on leave, as allegations of financial irregularities surfaced. The police were called in to investigate the allegations.

Those allegations were made, following an assessment conducted by the Keith Burrowes Implementation Commission.

Burrowes and team accused the council of having phantom staff on their payroll, and paying excessive overtime to council workers.
