All of the airport staff members held after two drug busts at CJIA have been released
All of the airport staff members, who were held two Sundays ago after 2 busts at the Cheddi Jagan International airport, netted 60 pounds of cocaine have been released. Two of them who were still being held, were eventually released. 10 airport staffers were initially held. Capitol News understands, that a number of them have been asked to report daily to the investigators. Charges could come soon.
In the first bust, 55 pounds of cocaine was discovered stashed away in a suitcase, that was already loaded onto a Caribbean Airlines operated aircraft. That was 2 in the morning. Just hours later, 5 pounds of cocaine was found in one of the vehicles used to shuttle the flight stairs to the aircraft.
Investigators believe, there might have been some collusion among various persons working at the airport that would have allowed all that cocaine to go undetected and almost successfully taken overseas.
Now CANU, the police and airport authorities are now trying to figure out how two women with cocaine stashed in their hair weave were able to make it pass all security and board flights to new York. The women with over 2 pounds of cocaine in their pricy hair do were busted when they arrived in New York and officials there noticed that their hairstyle may have been a bit too extravagant. Checks revealed the drugs were hidden under the extra hair.
One of the women said she was expecting a 7500 US dollar pay day for taking the drugs to the US.
