Police Commisioner confirms Home Affairs Minister would bypass him and make direct contact with junior ranks
On Monday afternoon, Police Commissioner, Leroy Brumell, confirmed what has been rumoured for a while; that the Home Affairs Minister, would bypass the Police Commissioner and make contact, and deal directly with junior ranks on various issues.
Brumell gave the confirmation while being questioned by attorney, Nigel Hughes, during the Monday hearings of that Linden Commission of Inquiry.
The attorney later read out cell phone numbers for the Home Affairs Minister and Superintendent Hickens, who was the commander for the E and F division at the time of the Linden incident. Brumell was asked if he was aware that the Home Affairs Minister called the Superintendent just 45 minutes before the police opened fire on the protesting crowd to clear the bridge. Brumell said he was not aware of that, but he did tell the Commission that the force could request the telephone records from the telephone companies. The Commission members have indicated that they might want to see those records.
