Government today, announced the establishment of a unit that will monitor the Amelia Falls Hydro-Power Project
The Guyana Government does not appear like it wants to be bitten twice, when it comes to the Amelia Falls Hydro-Power Project. The Government today, announced the establishment of a unit that will monitor the project when work gets going again.
The last contractor for the road project had fallen out of favour, after he failed to meet a number of deadlines and get a lot of what was needed in place. Questioned today about whether Parliament will play a role in the unit, Dr Luncheon said no.
Meanwhile, the Government announced more money for the expansion of the East Coast Public Road. The new figures match the previous amount for the same project by the first contractor. That contractor was also dumped by Government. Now it’s about paying more attention.
The opposition has criticized the Government in the past for not paying attention to many of those multi-million dollar contracts that it hands out. There have also been calls for the contractors to be scrutinized more.
